SEO Basics for Therapists
At some point while you were building your website, you likely heard someone mention “SEO“, and how essential it is for your private practice website. Unfortunately, you’re not entirely sure what it is. So naturally, you were tempted to hire someone to do it for you. You thought “If it’s so essential, then it’s smart to hire someone for $5 to get it out of the way, right?” No! That could be a disastrous mistake. In fact, hiring someone to handle your SEO before you understand the basics could have damaging effects on your website that could cost thousands of dollars to recover from.
The best thing to do, is to learn at least the basics of SEO on your own, so you can either handle it yourself or know enough to hire the right person. But I know: While you’re running your busy practice and wearing all your different hats… it can be hard to find the brain space to learn about SEO.
As a therapist, like you, I spend my days breaking down big, overwhelming concepts into small manageable tasks. And since I’m a techie, all that tech jargon about your online presence actually makes sense to me! In this course, I break down the big overwhelming concept of SEO into regular English, and give you the exact steps to get it started for your practice.

Questions & Answers
What is SEO?
Unlike the 1980s, there are now hundreds of millions of websites out there! It is not enough to just create a website anymore. If you build it, they will not just come. You have to help Google see that your website will be relevant and useful in order for potential clients to ever see it. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a set of marketing strategies you use to communicate to search engines that your webpage is exactly what your clients are looking for. When you do this well, search engines honor it by placing your pages higher in a search. The higher you are in a search, the more chances potential clients have to find you. In other words, good SEO = more clients.
Do I need WordPress to do this course?
No! Although I highly recommend WordPress as the best platform if you want to do well with SEO, this course will not be specific to WordPress. I’ll even point you to some SEO resources for other platforms like Weebly, Wix, Squarespace and others. With some of the other platforms, you may not have access to the features needed to do one or two of the steps, but I’ll point you whatever you can do.
Who are you?
I’m Jocelyn St.Cyr, a clinical social worker with a practice working with trauma survivors in Boston. SEO has been my #1 marketing strategy for my practice. I regularly have clients tell me that they “just new” they had to see me, because I just kept coming up again and again in their google search. I also love technology. The joke is that, in college, while all my friends were on spring break partying, I was learning to code. That makes me little rare in the therapy field… so I’m happy to share what I know with you.
Will you provide 1:1 help with my SEO?
This course will be giving you the tools to do your own SEO, but if you think you’ll need individual help, connect with me about individual services and I can provide you with an advanced SEO assessment, a phone consult, and action plan.
